School dance FAQs

How much does a school dance DJ cost in Seattle?
Our school dance packages start at $999 for three hours of event time and grow with your group size and A/V needs. Additional hours are $300 each. Every package includes hosting and MC work, professional sound, lighting, setup, and teardown, with no hidden fees. Club-Style covers up to 1,000 students, and Headliner adds our biggest light show on the same JBL system, so a big gym never means bringing in an outside vendor. Tell us your expected attendance, and we'll confirm the right package for the room.

Do you host and MC the dance, or just play music?
We host the whole dance, not just play music. Your DJ is also your MC, from introductions and announcements to the homecoming or prom court crowning, so a professional is always running the room and your program stays on time. You decide how much mic presence you want, and we keep it energetic and age-appropriate for students. Our job is to guide the flow of the night without ever talking over it.

Do you play clean versions of songs?
Yes, we play censored, radio-appropriate music suitable for guests of all ages. Students can request the songs they enjoy, and administrators don't have to worry about explicit lyrics coming out of the speakers.

Can students request songs?
We send you a questionnaire ahead of time to gather song requests and a do-not-play list. Students can also make live requests from their phones using a QR code, with no app to download.

How do we book a DJ for a student event?
Send us the date first. We'll confirm we're open and usually send a quote the next business day. Schools then sign a statement of work, which is what your district needs to open a purchase order, and we already hold master services agreements with many districts around Seattle. Hold the date with that purchase order or with a retainer, whichever your district's process allows. When the dance is paid from ASB funds, Washington rules don't allow paying in full before the event, so we invoice the balance after the dance. Your signed agreement sets the final terms.

Do you carry liability insurance, and can you provide a certificate of insurance?
Yes. DJ Illusion carries event liability insurance with a $1M per occurrence / $2M aggregate limit. Certificates of insurance and custom COIs naming your school or district are available upon request.

Do you DJ middle school dances?
Yes. DJ Illusion is a middle school dance DJ too, with the same packages, clean music edits approved by administrators, and an MC who keeps the program on time. Glow dances are a middle school favorite, and any package can add black lights for a neon theme.

Do you offer haze or fog effects?
We include a professional, concert-grade hazer with most of our lighting packages. Haze is what makes beams of light visible through the air. We always confirm your venue's haze policy with you ahead of time.

Do you have backup equipment?
Absolutely. We bring backup laptops and audio/lighting redundancy to every event. Equipment failure isn't something you'll have to stress about.

How far in advance should I book?
Prom and homecoming land on the same handful of weekends across the region, so book 6 to 12 months out. Our calendar fills fast. If your date is close, still reach out, because we'll let you know immediately if we're available.

What areas around Seattle do you serve?
We cover the greater Seattle area, including Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland, Renton, Kent, Federal Way, Tacoma, and Everett. We often travel up to 50 miles outside of Seattle, so contact us for events outside this range.
